Queensway Carleton Hospital (QCH) is a leading acute care hospital with more than 2,700 staff and physicians and annual revenues of $225 million. It serves more than 500,000 patients each year through a range of advanced acute and critical care programs, surgeries, diagnostic services, childbirth, mental health, rehabilitation, and geriatric care.


QCH is currently seeking diverse and passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors or participate as Community Members, with one or more of the following areas of expertise:

    • Community and government relations
    • Human resources
    • Health system transformation
    • Quality of care

Our Board and Board Committees are made up of volunteers. These Board positions play a critical role in providing stewardship, strategic guidance, fostering innovation, and monitoring organizational and strategic risks to ensure QCH continues to meet the evolving needs of our communities.

Board Director Competencies

Collectively, the Board is to have expertise in:

    • Governance;
    • Strategic management;
    • Leadership of complex organizations;
    • Financial management;
    • Organizational effectiveness;
    • Human resources;
    • Quality and risk management;
    • Information technology and digital services;
    • Social and community services;
    • Community and government relations;
    • Law;
    • Health system and its regulatory environment;
    • Issues affecting the health system and the people served by QCH.

QCH seeks a Board that informs dialogue and supports strong decision-making, reflects the community it serves, and has the ability to identify and question biases. The Board should therefore reflect diverse identity representations from a variety of ethnic, language, gender, cultural, and historical backgrounds and perspectives.

 

 

Governance Experience

It is important that Board Member candidates understand the responsibilities of being a Board Member and have the necessary experience to contribute to decision-making and oversight, therefore, prior Board/governance experience is an asset. QCH’s recruitment practice follows the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.

 

 

Time Commitment and Expectations

Board Members are also expected to contribute to the organization by:

    • Attending and actively participating in all Board and Committee meetings (virtually or in-person as required);
    • Attend QCH Board social events from time to time

The Board meetings are on a set schedule of approximately eight regular monthly meetings on Wednesdays. Board work is supported by Board Committees which focus on governance, quality, finance, and human resources. Board Members serve on a Board Committee and attend a retreat and four education sessions annually.

 

 

Process for Submitting Expressions of Interest

The Nominations Committee reviews and updates the skills matrix, interviews prospective candidates and provides recommendations to the Board for new members. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
